Positioned along Toronto's iconic waterfront, this Harbourfront Centre project reflects ABN Design's approach to creating public spaces that are both functional and engaging. Developed to enhance the experience of visitors, athletes, and the surrounding community, the design balances recreational performance with thoughtful landscape integration, contributing to one of the city's most recognizable public destinations.
The scope included the design of the soccer pitch environment, where circulation, usability, and visual cohesion were carefully considered to create an inviting and durable recreational space. Complementing the athletic facilities, the surrounding landscape was reimagined with enhancements that strengthen connectivity, improve the pedestrian experience, and introduce a cohesive relationship between built and natural elements.

Reimagining the arrival experience, ABN Design designed a valet entrance concept that merges architectural geometry with a refined material palette to create a distinguished first impression. The design balances bold sculptural elements with warm, tactile finishes, setting the stage for an experience that feels contemporary, curated, and seamlessly elevated.
At the heart of the concept is a faceted aluminum ceiling, designed to introduce movement and visual rhythm from the moment guests arrive. Its angular planes catch light in a dynamic interplay, adding depth and a sense of sculptural identity to the space. Complementing this feature, warm wood columns bring an inviting contrast—softening the modern lines while grounding the environment in natural warmth and texture.
Supporting infrastructure was seamlessly incorporated into the overall design through the introduction of new outdoor storage and waste enclosures. Clad in warm wooden plank walls with custom gates, these utility spaces were thoughtfully detailed to blend with the surrounding landscape while maintaining functionality and long-term durability.
From active recreation areas to public gathering spaces, every aspect of the project was designed with the user experience in mind. The result is a cohesive outdoor environment that supports community engagement, encourages year-round activity, and reinforces the vibrant character of Toronto's waterfront.
Marble accents layer in a sense of luxury and permanence, acting as refined touchpoints throughout the entry sequence. These surfaces not only elevate the material language but also contribute to a cohesive visual flow that connects the various architectural elements.
A tailored lighting strategy completes the experience, using integrated illumination to guide circulation and accentuate the geometry of the ceiling and surrounding architectural forms. Subtle gradients of light enhance depth, emphasize material transitions, and create an atmosphere that feels both functional and immersive.
Together, these elements create an entrance experience that is functional, welcoming, and architecturally expressive, setting an elevated tone for the spaces that follow.
